Ali Riaz, Vice Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, has expressed hope that a national consensus on major reform proposals can be achieved through dialogue.
Speaking at a meeting with the Khelafat Majlis at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building on Saturday, he stated that despite political differences, many parties share common views. “All opinions will be heard,” he assured.
At the start of the meeting, Ali Riaz extended gratitude on behalf of the Consensus Commission and its chairman, Muhammad Yunus. He emphasised that the dialogue would not be limited to a single party but would include others as well.
Khelafat Majlis Secretary General Dr Ahmad Abdul Kader noted that this meeting would help resolve disagreements over proposed reforms.
Ali Riaz further remarked, “A national consensus can be reached quickly through inclusive dialogue with all political parties. As part of this process, you (Khelafat Majlis) are participating.
We have only just begun and have not had much time yet, but we will continue discussions based on your sincere input.”
Earlier, on 20 March, the commission held its first dialogue with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The National Consensus Commission initiated these discussions to build a consensus on interim government reforms.
The commission is gathering political parties’ opinions on key recommendations from such as the Constitution Reform Commission, the Public Administration Reform Commission, the Election System Reform Commission, the Judicial Reform Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Reform Commission.
Following this, the commission sent a spreadsheet containing recommendations to 38 political parties, requesting specific feedback on major reform proposals by 13 March.
