News Desk :
Commuters across Bangladesh had a harrowing time asloco masters embarked on an indefinite strike early on Wednesday morning, demanding the restoration of the mileage allowance.
The strike crippled train services across the country, with passengers on internal routes in different parts being the worst hit, reports UNB.
Around 5am, the loco masters began their strike in protest against the government’s recent decision to revoke the allowance, said Shariful Alam, public relations officer of the railway ministry.
Railway minister, the secretary and other senior officials met with the protesting loco masters at Kamalapur railway station in the morning to resolve the issue.
UNB Gazipur correspondent reports: No trains have left Joydebpur railway station since 6 am, and a number of trains, including ‘Ekota Express’ from North Bengal, are stranded there due to the strike. Mileage allowance is paid according to the number of miles driven for loco masters and other relevant staff.
