Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday said a seven-member commission has been formed to investigate the 2009 Pilkhana massacre. The commission will probe the tragic events that took place at the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) headquarters in Dhaka, aiming to bring further clarity and accountability to the incident.

Speaking at a programme at the BGB headquarters in Pilkhana, the adviser said the chief adviser endorsed the formation of the commission on Sunday night.

Jahangir Alam expressed the hope that the creation of the commission, a long-standing demand of the nation, would be a significant step towards bringing clarity and justice to the tragic incident.

The commission’s objective is to uncover the true causes behind the events of February 25, 2009, when a mutiny erupted at the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR, now BGB) headquarters in Pilkhana, resulting in the deaths of dozens, including military personnel and civilians.

On the matter of Rohingya repatriation, Jahangir Alam remarked, “I cannot provide specific details on this issue. For a more comprehensive response, you may contact the foreign affairs ministry.”
