Cold-spell diarrhea-pneumonia breaks out in Sharankhola

Following the sweeping of cold-spell over Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district diarrhea accompanied with pneumonia has broken out in the Upazila in sporadic form, according to reports received here. Children are the main victims of the diseases.
According to the reports, some one hundred affected children have already admitted to Sharankhola Upazila Health Complex during the last one week for treatment. But unfortunately there is no saline in the Health Complex for the last 06 months for the treatment of diarrhea patients. On the other hand, some other necessary medicines for the treatment of diarrhea patients are not available in the Health Complex as per requirement. So, the guardians of the patients are compelled to purchase saline and other medicines from the market.
Some of the guardians like Rozina Begum of village Rajair, Champa Begum of village Dakkhin Southkhali and Sattar Hawladar of village Rajapur said, we were compelled to purchase saline and require other medicines for ouir patients.
Dr. Ashfaq Hossain, RMO (Residential Medical Officer) of the Upazila Health Complex admitted the fact and said, every day as many as 10 to 15 diarrhea accompanied with pneumonia attacked (Children) appear to the Health Complex as outdoor patients in order to take treatment and serious patients are admitted to the Health Complex though there is no saline for 6 months. The RMO added, sometimes, old patients come to the Health Complex for taking treatment.
He further added, in spite of that medical treatment is being provided to the patients as much as possible.
Dr. Priyo Gopal Biswas, UPazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Sharankhola told the newsmen, children have been suffering from diarrhea and pneumonia due to rotavirus in severe cold winter and such diarrhea breaks out during the winter. He admitted the shortage of medicines in the Health Complex. Supply of medicines from Dhaka received in Monday morning.
