Students under the banner of “Anti-Fascism Student-People” staged a symbolic coffin procession at Dhaka University campus in the capital on Wednesday, demanding a ban on political activities of Awami League, Jatiya Party, and other “fascist” forces.
The procession began on Wednesday morning from the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) and moved through key areas of the campus, including Ruqayyah Hall and the Arts Faculty Building, before culminating in front of Madhur Canteen. The participants carried a coffin and chanted different anti-fascism slogans.
The chief organizer of the event, Bin YaminMolla, said: “Those who have lost their limbs in the movement will never get them back. The martyrs cannot be brought back. So why should the Awami League return? Why should the Awami League and their ally Jatiya Party participate in the elections? We have earned this new Bangladesh at the cost of thousands of lives.
An opportunity has come, but I see that the leaders of big parties are trying to rehabilitate the fascist Awami League. They want to join the election with the Awami League.”
“We, the students and general people will not allow this.”
To maintain the spirit of the movement and in the interest of the country’s development, he urged the advisers to ban both the Awami League and the Jatiya Party.
Another key organizer, ZiaurRahman Zia, said: “Even after 100 days of the fall of fascism, the fascists are still prowling. They are carrying out various activities and joining the advisory council. People including students will again get united to drive them out.”
