Border Guard Battalion Bangladesh (BGB) patrolling personnel were allegedly injured in an attack by smugglers while seizing a consignment of coal smuggled from India duty-free. On Saturday evening, the attack happened on the patrol team of 28 Border Guard Battalion Bangladesh (BGB) of Baliaghat BOP of Tahirpur Upazila of Sunamganj.
BOP Commander Camp Commander Nayeb Subedar Zafar sustained a bloody injury due to a stone pelted by smugglers.
The injured camp commander was taken to the village doctor in Lakma Paschimpara market of the upazila and after first treatment was taken to BOP at night.
Eyewitnesses of Lamka border village of Tahirpur upazila said that on Saturday morning, members of an organized coal smuggling gang of 30/40 people illegally infiltrated to extract coal from various pits in the Meghalaya hills on the Indian border, avoiding the attention of the BGB.
In the afternoon, 28 Border Guard Battalion Bangladesh (BGB) collected more than two hundred sacks of coal in the responsible area of Baliaghat BOP of Tahirpur Upazila of Sunamganj in the main pillar 1197 area of 4S to bring these coals to the other side.
Camp Commander, BIP and two constables on patrol of Baliaghat BOP found the smuggled coal. The patrol team then seized the coal and went to collect workers to take it away. In the evening, when the patrol team was unable to find the workers, they proceeded towards the coal consignment brought across by the smugglers under surveillance, the organized smugglers started attacking the BGB patrol team with bricks, jute stones.
After that, the people of the area came forward and brought the injured camp commander and BGB patrol team safely to the local market. Eyewitnesses confirmed that first aid was given there.
