The Khulna University Rotaract Club organised the public speaking and presentation competition ‘Talking Titans 3.0’ for the third time.
The two-day competition was held on May 23 and 24 with the participation of students from various disciplines of the university.
On Saturday, the final round was held at the Natmandapa of the Bangla discipline of the university’s Academic Building No. 3. The university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim was present as the chief guest.
He said that today’s students are not only progressing in traditional education, but also in leadership and IT skills. Along with formal education, such co-curricular and extra-curricular activities provide an opportunity for the youth to express themselves, which will play an important role in their careers in the future.
He further said that the purpose of university education is not limited to obtaining a degree, but to create a foundation for developing a complete human being. These competitions build confidence among students and help develop leadership qualities.
Professor Dr. Md. Shahjahan Kabir, Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, also spoke at the event. Abdullah Anam Noman presided over the event. Anindita Biswas and Pooja Basu moderated the event. This competition was held in three categories – Public Speaking (Bangla), Public Speaking (English) and PowerPoint Presentation. The preliminary round was held on May 23 and the final round was held today, May 24. Teachers from various disciplines of the university served as judges in all three categories of the competition.
The judge in the Public Speaking (Bangla) category was Professor Dr. Md. Rubel Ansar, Professor of Bangla Discipline. The judge for the Public Speaking (English) category was Professor Dr. Md. Matiul Islam of the Agrotechnology discipline. The judge for the Presentation category was Professor Sehrish Khan of the Electronics and Communication Engineering discipline.
In the final round of the competition, a session was held as a special attraction by popular motivational speaker, writer and content creator Sadman Sadiq. After a short session, he announced the names of the winners.
In the Public Speaking (Bangla) category, Afsana Rahman Tuli, a third-year student of the Human Resource Management discipline, became the champion and Rafia Islam Mim, a second-year student of the History and Civilization discipline, became the runner-up. In the Public Speaking (English) category, Maliha Anjum, a third-year student of the Sociology discipline, became the champion and Farzana Jahan, a second-year student of the Mass Communication and Journalism discipline, became the runner-up. In the presentation category, the champion was Md. Mukarram Hossain, a third-year student of Forestry and Wood Technology discipline, and the runner-up was Nafia Wahid Nirjhar, a third-year student of Physics discipline.
The organizer, Rotaract Club, informed that the ‘Talking Titans’ competition is organized regularly every year. The organizers commented that this event is playing an effective role in the personality development and leadership qualities of the students.
