A meeting was held with leaders of various organisations to maintain law and order during the holy month of Ramadan.
The meeting was held at the Dampara Police Lines Multipurpose Shed in the city on Monday. The meeting was presided over by CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz.
In the meeting, various issues including regulating the market of edible oil including food items ahead of Ramadan, preventing theft, robbery, extortion, and embezzlement in markets, arranging CCTV in various markets and shopping malls, firefighting systems, deployment of security personnel in markets and commercial areas, security measures for the general public, and pay-parking systems to ease traffic congestion were discussed. Various business leaders of Chattagram Metropolitan City delivered speeches seeking police assistance to maintain law and order in their respective areas. The CMP Commissioner said in the meeting that all kinds of police assistance will be provided to the business leaders. In the exchange of views meeting, the CMP Commissioner directed all the concerned unit heads including police stations and traffic departments and all police members to prepare a ward-based list to prevent traffic congestion, robbery, illegal hoarding and extortion, and to work on this issue in coordination with the Citizen Forum, leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement, and business representatives.
He said that there will be police guard in all major markets during Ramadan and female police will be deployed to prevent the activities of female robbers. He also said that care should be taken to ensure that no suffering occurs in public life from the first Ramadan.
In order to protect the sanctity of Ramadan, everyone should work together so that ordinary city dwellers and all types of businessmen, including people of all religions, can live peacefully.
At this time, he called on business leaders to strengthen security measures, including installing CCTV cameras in every market to control the law and order situation. He stressed the importance of strict control over the normal movement of traffic, especially the entry or movement of unauthorized vehicles into the city. Along with this, the CMP Commissioner requested the traders to keep the prices of goods at a tolerable level and not to create artificial crises by illegally hoarding. CMP Additional Police Commissioner (Administration and Finance) Ashfaquzzaman Akhter, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Md. Humayun Kabir, senior officers of CMP and representatives of other police units, and leaders of the Chiattagram Chamber of Commerce and Industry, importers-wholesalers, shop owners’ associations and representatives of various government and non-government organizations were present in the meeting.
