RU Correspondent :
Even after a week since the 16 residential halls of Rajshahi University (RU) reopened following the winter vacation, a dining services have remained shut, causing immense suffering to residential students.
After a 15-day winter vacation, the residential halls of the university reopened on 7th January while the institute’s regular operations resumed from 11th January.
As a result, residential students are now forced to take their meals at local restaurants in Bindpur, Kazla, Station Bazar and other nearby areas, putting extra pressure on both money and time.
‘You have to spend at least Tk50 extra a day if you take meals at these restaurants. At the same time, you need to travel a long distance for having your meals, which is both money and time consuming,’ said Tamanna Toma, a third year student of English department and also a resident at Rokeya Hall.
Students also said the university’s central cafeteria has not resumed after the vacation, while some hall canteens had reopened. Residential students also complained that hall authorities did not make any announcement on when the dining facilities will resume.
When contacted, Mostafa Sharif Anawar, provost of Shahed Shamsuzzoha Hall and also the provost council president, told the New nation that the dining hall facilities could not be resumed, as half of the residential students have not returned back at their halls. He, however, said the facilities would be resumed as soon as possible.
