In a poignant demonstration of community solidarity during Ramadan, climate change affected 90 families in the Char area of Kurigram district found relief through essential food aid.

Spearheaded by the collaborative efforts of the Prochesta Foundation, Azimur Rokia Rahman Trust, and YouthNet for Climate, this compassionate endeavour unfolded on Friday in the Jatrapur Union of Kurigram district.

Recognizing the profound significance of Ramadan and the challenges encountered by many within the community, particularly during this auspicious period, the collective efforts of these organizations aimed to alleviate the burdens faced by local families.

The youth-led distribution sought to ensure that families could observe Ramadan with dignity and tranquillity while upholding their nutritional needs. The distributed food items, carefully curated to meet essential dietary requirements, included 8 kg of rice, 1 kg of dal, 3 kg of potatoes, half a kg of sugar, 1 liter of oil, and 1 kg of chickpeas.

Chamina Begum, a resident of Char Youthnet, expressed her gratitude, emphasizing the impact of the assistance provided during Ramadan.

“Wow, the price of the boots, I want to stay for 8 days and break the fast (Iftar) with Solid Puff Rice (Chal Vaja),” she exclaimed. Her sentiments echoed those of hundreds of families in the Char area of Kurigram who conveyed their happiness and appreciation for the timely support.

Jatrapur Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Ghafoor emphasized the importance of such humanitarian endeavors, particularly in remote areas where access to resources is limited.

He stressed the positive impact of the distribution of food items, stating, “The current price hike of goods, distribution of food items in a remote char area of Kurigram during the month of Ramadan has greatly benefited these people who are deprived of fodder.”

He urged for continued support and collaboration in similar initiatives aimed at uplifting communities in need.

Sohanur Rahman, Executive Coordinator of YouthNet for Climate, expressed his sentiments, stating, “Our youth-led initiative is grounded in the principles of compassion and solidarity.

We are honored to support our fellow community members during this sacred month of Ramadan, ensuring they have access to vital food supplies. Our objective extends beyond mere provision; we seek to foster hope and unity within our community.”
