A clash over playing games on mosque ground in Sonaimuri, Noakhali, left one person dead, identified as Abul Kashem.
Two others were injured, and three individuals have been arrested by the local police. As of this report , preparations are underway to file a formal case.
The incident occurred on Friday, after Friday prayers in front of Baitul Aman Jame Mosque in Purbo Dokshin Para, Ward No. 6, Sonaimuri Municipality.
The deceased, Abul Kashem (58), was the son of Dud Mia of Abid Bhuiya’s house. His daughter, Rabeya Begum, and son, Md. Sohag, sustained injuries during the clash.
The arrested individuals are Abul Khair Master, son of Loni Mia; Shafiq Ulla, son of Monsur Ali; and Rakib, son of Main Uddin, all residents of the same village.
According to the deceased’s daughter, Rabeya Akter, young people in the area used to play daily on the mosque’s open ground.
Abul Khair Master obstructed the game, which led to an argument after Friday prayers.
During the altercation, Abul Kashem was severely beaten. He was later taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
The deceased’s son, Sohag (23), is preparing to file a case naming nine individuals as accused.
Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Morshed Alam confirmed that three people have been arrested in connection with the incident, and preparations for filing a case are ongoing.
On Saturday morning, the body was sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
