Awami League’s mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said the city polls will be held in a festive environment and will be participatory and competitive.
“I hope that the city polls will be held in a free and peaceful manner,” he told reporters on Wednesday before conducting electoral campaign in front of Dholaipar High School in city’s Jathrabari area.
AL leaders Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikkram, Sanzida Khanam and Shahe Alam Murad, Jubo League leaders Obaidur Rahman Badal, Matiar Rahman Badsha and Mohammad Islam, among others, participated in the campaign.
The mayoral candidate vowed to turn the city into a developed one if he is elected in the upcoming city polls slated for January 30. “We will turn Dhaka South City Corporation into a developed city corporation,” he added.
Taposh, also former ruling AL lawmaker, sought votes for ‘Boat’, the electoral symbol of AL, and expressed his firm resolution that Dhaka would be made a beautiful as well as a clean city.
He said, “The city dwellers are responding to me. The local people are also taking part in the polls campaign spontaneously. I will devote myself to the people if I am elected as mayor of the city corporation.”
He said a mega plan for long 30 years will be taken to make the Dhaka city a beautiful one and to protect the Buriganga River. Communication facilities, parks, walking places, play grounds and pathways for moving historical cart vehicles on the bank of the Buriganga River will be constructed, he added.
The mayoral candidate said he would embark on a goal to make a corruption-free city corporation. “If I get elected, I will ensure all the basic facilities for the city dwellers and help them to reap their benefits. The waste management will be made modern,” he added.
