Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has said that China is fully prepared to begin work on the long-awaited Teesta River conservation and management project, pending formal approval from the Bangladesh government.
Speaking at a “DCAB Talk” event hosted by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday, the envoy stated, “China is ready to provide both technical and financial support for the Teesta multipurpose project. We’re simply waiting for the go-ahead from the Bangladesh side.”
The Teesta project, aimed at comprehensive water management and infrastructure development, has been under discussion for years, with China expressing interest in funding and implementing it. However, a final decision from Dhaka is yet to be made.
Ambassador Yao emphasized Beijing’s readiness to act swiftly once approval is granted, saying, “The ball is now in Bangladesh’s court.”
