Chinese 24 businesses join BD-China steel summit Dhaka

More than 50 businessmen from 24 Chinese businesses participated in the two-day long Bangladesh-China steel summit-2024 at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel, Dhaka started on Friday.

Bangladesh Iron and Steel Importers Association and China Steel Imports and Exports Association organised the summit jointly.

The Bangladeshi organisers hoped that the investment in this sector will be increased to more than USD 10 billion from the current USD five billion within two years through this summit.

Abu Jar Gifari Jewel, President of Bangladesh Iron and Steel Importers Association and Alhaj Nasir Ullah expressed their hopes in the summit that big Chinese businesses will invest huge amounts of money in the sector in Bangladesh as there are huge potentials.

For the first time, a Bangladesh-China steel business summit has been arranged in a bid to attain huge Chinese investment in the steel sector in Bangladesh.

Abu Jar Gifari Jewel said in the inauguration ceremony that huge Chinese investment will be attracted in the Bangladesh steel sector shortly as the Chinese businesses showed their eagerness in separate meetings.

Organisers have put ahead the steel sector’s potentials in Bangladesh in the summit.

The summit was inaugurated on Friday morning and was open till the evening 6pm.

Several meetings between businesses (b2b) of the two countries will take place during the summit to end on Saturday night.

Entrepreneurs of the steel sector said that such an initiative to be organised before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s China visit would be very significant.

Amir Hossain Nurani, Director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) said to the Chinese businessmen that there are huge infrastructures being constructed in Bangladesh and there are huge potentials of steel.

So, the Chinese entrepreneurs’ could be benefitted from investing in this sector.

China Alliance Exporters and Importers’ President Gend Bo said Chinese investors would be enthusiastic to invest more in this sector in Bangladesh.

“So that, we have agreed to organise this summit combined,” he said.

Mahbubul Alam, President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) and Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen will be attending on the second and the closing day of the event followed by a cultural event and dinner party.
