The visiting Chinese medical team from Wuhan Third Hospital has reaffirmed its full commitment to supporting the burned injured admitted to different hospitals in the capital following the aircraft crash at the Milestone School and College on Monday.

According to Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, the team has been continuing its collaborative work at the Bangladesh Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, providing vital medical treatment, expert consultation, and hands-on assistance to the injured on Friday.

The Chinese delegation – comprising doctors, surgeons, and nurses – has been actively involved in advising Bangladeshi medical professionals on advanced techniques to prevent wound infections, manage burn injuries, and carry out routine post-trauma care.

The team closely examined several patients, provided detailed surgical guidance, assisted in arterial punctures, and participated in dressing changes and wound cleaning procedures, Chinese Embassy said.

Beyond bedside care, the Chinese team has been working in unison with medical teams from Singapore and India.
They held joint consultations with Bangladeshi physicians, fostering a spirit of international collaboration at a time when the country’s healthcare system is under immense pressure.
“We are willing to do whatever we can to help our Bangladeshi friends during this difficult time,” said one member of the Chinese team. “Our support is ongoing, and we are here not just as doctors, but as partners and friends.”

This visit is part of a broader Chinese initiative to assist Bangladesh following the recent unrest and concurrent health challenges.

Apart from such medical support, China has been standing with Bangladesh in time of need and crisis. After the July uprising last year, a Chinese team came to Bangladesh to provide medical support to the wounded who received injuries by state machineries of Sheikh Hasina government.

Even Chinese government has recently dispatched critical medical equipments for setting up the country’s first Robotic Rehabilitation Centre in the Bangladesh Medical University to treat and rehabilitate the patients suffering from paralysis and long-term neurological disorders.

The Chinese government has given this grant worth nearly Tk20 crore. A total of 62 robots, including 22 powered artificial intelligence, have been installed to build the centre with technical assistance from China.

With the country battling a severe Dengue outbreak, China has recently handed over mosquito repellent kits, diagnostic tools, and medicines to help combat the spread of the disease.

Further, in light of sporadic COVID-19 cases still being reported, China has also donated antiviral drugs, PPE kits, and rapid test kits to strengthen Bangladesh’s pandemic preparedness.

This isn’t the first time China has stepped forward during a healthcare crisis in Bangladesh. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, China provided vaccines, and technical training for Bangladeshi medical staff.

This consistent support has solidified the health partnership between the two nations, showcasing China’s long-term commitment to Bangladesh’s medical development and emergency response capacity.

The bilateral relations between the two countries are growing in multifaceted arenas as both countries are going to celebrate 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations this year.
