The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has made a significant breakthrough by apprehending two members of an international child pornography syndicate operating from Khilgaon in the capital.
Alongside the arrests, CTTC successfully rescued a minor victim, and a substantial cache of child pornography materials and production equipment was seized.
The CTTC disclosed this critical operation at a press conference held at DMP’s media center at Minto Road in the capital.
The arrests of Bangladeshi ringleader Tipu Kibria and his associate Kamrul Islam alias Sagar from Khilgaon on Tuesday (April 23) were announced, shedding light on the extensive reach of their illicit activities.
During the press conference, shocking revelations emerged, indicating that the accused had distributed over 25,000 child pornography images and 1,000 videos to customers across several countries, including Italy, Australia, and Germany.
Further insights were provided by DMP Additional Commissioner and CTTC Chief Asaduzzaman, who highlighted Tipu Kibria’s previous arrest by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in June 2014 on charges related to the production and trafficking of child pornography.
Despite facing legal proceedings under the Pornography Act, Kibria was acquitted, only to resume his criminal activities upon release from prison, cloaking them under the guise of literary pursuits.
During initial interrogation, Tipu Kibria confessed to reprehensible practices, admitting to exploiting street children to create pornographic content.
He lured vulnerable children from various parts of the capital to his residence with promises of meager payments, capturing indecent images and videos of them. Such despicable acts also occurred in secluded areas within different parks.
Kibria operated alongside associates like Kamrul, who aided in the procurement of street boys for their nefarious endeavors.
The syndicate would then upload obscene materials to various pornography websites, attracting communication from numerous individuals.
