Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday called on the police to maintain neutrality and ensure they are not used by any party in the upcoming national election. He emphasized the interim government’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and peaceful election.
“Remember, if someone comes to power through irregularities, they cannot uphold justice,” he said, speaking at an event marking Police Week 2025. “So, don’t let yourselves be used. Dedicate yourselves to the election with a pledge to uphold truth and justice.”
Prof Yunus reiterated his earlier statements that the 13th parliamentary election will be held between December this year and June next year. He underscored the critical role of the police in ensuring the election process remains fair and peaceful.
He urged law enforcement to treat all candidates equally and foster an environment in which voters can cast their ballots freely and without fear. A truly impartial election, he said, is essential—not just for this moment, but to ensure that the police force is never misused as a political tool in the future.
“This pre-election period is particularly sensitive,” Prof Yunus warned, urging police officers to stay alert against any attempts by destabilizing forces to create unrest.
“Be on guard against any evil forces trying to undermine unity,” he concluded. “Your vigilance is key to preserving peace and democracy.”
