Chief Adviser Dr Yunus hands over Ekushey Padak 2025

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has awarded the Ekushey Padak 2025 to 18 distinguished individuals and the Bangladesh women’s national football team for their outstanding contributions in various fields.

The award giving ceremony took place at the city’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Thursday morning. This year’s recipients were honoured across various fields for their outstanding contributions.

In the film category, the award was given posthumously to Azizur Rahman. Ustad Nirad Baran Barua (posthumous) and Ferdous Ara received recognition for their contributions to music. Moeedul Hassan was awarded for research, while Dr Niaz Zaman was honored for education.

Photographer Nasir Ali Mamun and painter Rokeya Sultana were also among the recipients. In journalism, Mahfuz Ullah was posthumously recognised.

The award for science and technology went to Mehdi Hasan Khan, leading a team that included Rifat Nabi, Md Tanbin Islam Siam, and Shabab Mustafa for their creation of the Avro keyboard. Mohammad Yusuf Chowdhury was posthumously honored for social work, and Mahmudur Rahman was recognised for journalism and human rights.

In language and literature, posthumous awards were given to Helal Hafiz and Shahidul Jahir (Md Shahidul Haque). Dr Shahidul Alam received recognition for his contributions to culture and education.

The Bangladesh Women’s National Football Team was awarded the prestigious honour in the sports category.
