CEC heads to Canada tonight to monitor expatriate voter registration

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin is set to depart Dhaka for Canada tonight, 4 September, to observe expatriate Bangladeshi voter registration activities. Personal Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Alam confirmed the trip.

An office order signed by EC Deputy Secretary Md Shah Alam indicates the CEC will return on 18 September. In Canada, he will attend the inauguration of voter registration and oversee the distribution of National Identity Cards (NIDs).

The CEC will visit Toronto and Ottawa from 5 to 12 September to monitor registration and NID distribution, followed by a stay in Vancouver from 13 to 15 September for personal engagements. Currently, the Election Commission is conducting expatriate voter registration through embassies at 17 stations across 10 countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Italy, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, and Canada.

About 50,000 applications have been received from expatriates.
