Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin has warned of potential threats posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in the lead-up to the next general election, affirming that the Election Commission (EC) remains fully alert to address such challenges.
Speaking to reporters before a meeting with Khulna divisional election officials at the Khulna Regional Election Commissioner’s Office on Saturday, the CEC emphasised the EC’s vigilance against any AI-driven attempts that could affect the electoral process.
He highlighted the commission’s key priorities, including restoring voters’ trust and encouraging higher turnout, particularly among women.
“Ensuring women’s active participation in the election is a major focus for us,” Nasir Uddin stated.
The CEC also expressed confidence in law enforcement agencies’ upcoming nationwide efforts to recover illegal arms and reduce criminal activity ahead of the polls.
“Our aim is to deliver a free, fair, neutral, and credible election to the people,” he said. “Transparency is paramount – all our activities will be open and accountable. Failure to uphold this will have consequences for future generations.”
The meeting included senior election officials from regional, district, and upazila levels.
Following the press briefing, Nasir Uddin attended a closed-door session with divisional election officers to discuss detailed preparations for the forthcoming election.
