Chattagram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said that 829,301 children will be vaccinated against typhoid in 1,546 schools and 783 outreach sites in the city. Of these, 531,167 are school students and 296,784 are out-of-school children.
The mayor gave this information at an advocacy meeting and press conference on the typhoid vaccination program at the CCC Public Library auditorium on Wednesday. The typhoid vaccination campaign will start nationwide on Sunday under the government’s EPI program.
The vaccination will be given at the school level until October 31 and at the community level from November 1-13. All children aged 9 months (270 days) to less than 15 years (14 years 11 months 29 days) of the non-educational community and all students from pre-primary to ninth grade/equivalent will be given 1 dose of typhoid vaccine free of charge. Registration is underway on the vaxepi app using the information of the 17-digit birth registration certificate.
The mayor said that 2 lakh 8 thousand 267 people have registered till October 6. Of these, 1 lakh 60 thousand 148 people (30 percent) are from schools and 48 thousand 119 people (16 percent) are from the community level. Chief Executive Officer of CCC Mohammad Ashraful Amin presided over the function. Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi was the special guest and also present was Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Alam.
