Chattogram Bureau :
Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has inaugurated two projects worth
Tk 20.4 crores for the construction of bridges, culverts, drains and road development in South Patenga
Ward of the Port City.
On Tuesday, the Mayor inaugurated the construction of road including bridge in Abul Khair Sukani Bari in No 41 South Patenga Ward at a cost of Tk 15 crore 19 lakh and road development work including drain in Bijayanagar residential area.
The Mayor said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is giving special importance to the development of South Patenga to implement the plan of developing Chattogram as a hub of world trade and to utilise the tourism potential of Patenga beach. If these two projects are implemented, the communication system of the local people will be improved on the one hand and on the other hand, waterlogging will be reduced due to good drainage system.
Calling for a reduction in the use of polythene, the Mayor said that only taking development projects is not enough to reduce waterlogging.
This requires conscious behavior of people. Throwing polythene, plastic, non-biodegradable waste in drains, encroachment of rivers and canals will not reduce waterlogging in any way.
“In a few days I will embark on a strict campaign to reduce the use of polythene, meanwhile you should prepare to use alternative jute bags.”
Ward Councilor Saleh Ahmad Chowdhury, Reserve Councilor Shahanur Begum, CCC Additional Chief Engineer Munirul Huda, Supervising Engineer Biplab Dash, Executive Engineer Ashiqul Islam, Assistant Engineer Mohaiminul Islam, ASM Islam, Mohammad Islam, Wahidul Alam, Haji Abdul Quader were also present.
