Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said that the Chattogram City Corporation boundary needs to be expanded as the population and economic activities in Chattogram city are increasing over time.
He made this remark as the chief guest at a discussion meeting and prayer meeting on the occasion of the inauguration of the reconstruction work of Baitun Noor Central Jame Mosque in Barshat Union, Anwara Boalia No. 2, and Chattogram on Friday.
The program, chaired by Allama Mufti Khalil Ahmed Qureshi, was attended by keynote speakers former MP Sarwar Jamal Nizam, Advocate Fouzul Amin Chowdhury, Manjurul Alam Manju, former Chairman Hasan Chowdhury, Sunny Nizam, former Chairman Ansar, and local dignitaries and devotees.
The City Mayor said, “Currently, a large number of people living outside the City Corporation are coming to the city every day to work, do business and trade. However, since these areas are outside the jurisdiction of the Corporation, development in these areas is being hampered. As a result, we are losing a lot of revenue due to lack of economic expansion.
This has become a serious challenge for us. If we love the country, if we love Chattogram, then this city has to be expanded. Many parts of South Chattogram, especially Karnaphuli and several areas of Anwara, need to be connected to the city.”
