The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has instructed maritime ports to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3 as a land depression and the new moon phase may trigger tidal surges along the coast.
Due to the depression and astronomical conditions, wind-driven tidal surges 1–3 feet higher than normal may flood low-lying areas in several coastal districts, including Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barishal, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Chandpur, Laxmipur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar, along with nearby islands and chars.
The depression, currently situated over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand, is moving west-northwest. It has caused a steep pressure gradient over the North Bay, prompting forecasts of gusty and squally weather in coastal and marine areas.
Ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to keep local cautionary signal No. 3 raised. All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been warned to remain in safe shelter until further notice.
