‘Cattle raisers made brisk business during Eid’
City Desk:
Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar today said cattle raisers or firm operators made brisk businesses thanks to higher sales of their cows during the Eid-Ul-Azha this year.
“No cattle were imported this year,” a ministry statement quoted the adviser as saying while exchanging Eid greeting with her ministry officials and employees at her office.
She said the ministry and particularly the livestock department extended the cattle raisers and farm owners their hands throughout the past year resulting in adequate production of sacrificial animals.
Akhtar, however, acknowledged that lack of required experience caused some problems in hide preservation despite the supplies of salt free of cost on government’s behalf. She said rawhide price too was not as high as expected but it was comparatively better than any previous years. Cattle raisers across the country reported strong sales and brisk business during this year’s Eid-ul-Azha, as demand for sacrificial animals surged following a relatively quiet season last year.
From rural farms to urban cattle markets, the buzz of business was unmistakable in the lead-up to the religious festival, with many traders expressing satisfaction over both footfall and profits. Livestock farmers, particularly in districts like Sirajganj, Rajshahi, and Jashore, said they were able to sell most of their cattle at reasonable to high prices due to steady demand and favorable market conditions.
