Kamutia Beel, a traditional wetland in Tangail district, turns into a vibrant hub of life during the monsoon. As the waters rise, the beel becomes not just a source of livelihood but a canvas of community, culture, and coexistence.

Every monsoon, as the beel overflows with rainwater, local fishermen flock to its expanse. From dawn to dusk, they cast their nets, row their dinghy boats, and harvest the waters. This annual activity transforms the serene wetland into a festive setting. Farmers, children, and passersby gather along the banks, silently witnessing this age-old tradition.

But Kamutia Beel is more than a fishing ground—it’s a sanctuary for biodiversity. The melodies of migratory birds, the rhythmic swaying of aquatic plants, and the oral tales passed down through generations—all come alive here.

As in previous years, this monsoon too, the tradition of net fishing continues in Kamutia Beel. It is not just a means of sustenance, but a reflection of rural Bangladesh’s enduring bond with nature and heritage.
