A case has been filed in the cyber tribunal against 6 people including three journalists for live-streaming of a press conference on social media Facebooka at Patharghata upazila district press club in Barguna.
The case was filed by one Liton Howlader on basis of power of attorney from an expatriate named Al Mamun.
The accused in the case are Patharghata upazila correspondent of Dainik Ajker Potrika and also editor of local online portal Patharghata News Tariqul Islam alias Kazi Rakib, Patharghata correspondent of Dainik Kalbela Al Amin Forkan, Patharghata correspondent of Mohana Television Suman Mollah, press conference organiser Asma Akhter, former UP member of Charduani Union Mujibur Rahman and Oli Ullah.
Inspector (Investigation) Saifuzzaman of Patharghata police station confirmed this information on Monday (April 29). He said that a case was filed earlier in the Barishal Cyber Tribunal on April 4 and then sent to Patharghata police station by the court for investigation and reached there on Monday.
According to the complaint made by the victim in the press conference was Al Mamun took Asma’s husband Monir to Saudi Arabia. On that basis, Mamun contacted Asma on mobile phone. Later Mamun offered Asma various immoral jobs.
As Asma did not agree to this proposal, Mamun’s people took her husband Monir as a hostage in Saudi Arabia and forced Asma to divorce her.
Later, Mamun returning home threatened to kill Monir, who was held hostage in Saudi Arabia, and detained Asma for a month and raped her. Later, Mamun sent Monir to the country to divorce Asma.
Al Mamun filed 13 cases against Monir and Asma in different districts because Monir did not divorce his wife Asma. Monir was arrested in a case of those on last February.
On February 8, the victim Asma held a press conference at Patharghata Press Club. As a result of this press conference, Al Mamun filed a case against six people including journalists in the cyber tribunal on Sunday April 28 night and threatened journalistswith lawsuits.
Patharghata Press Club President Golam Mostafa Chowdhury said that the victims will come to the press club and hold a press conference. Journalists will promote it through various media as per their duty. Where is the safety of journalists if they are sued for publishing the complaints of the victims?
Meanwhile, Patharghata Press Club President Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, General Secretary Zafar Iqbal and Patharghata Upazila Press Club Presidents Joy Biswas and Secretary Arif Tawhid strongly condemned and protested the case against three Patharghata journalists in the Cyber Tribunal and demanded withdrawal of this case soon.
