A case has been filed in connection with the attack and vandalism on a tourist vehicle during a protest demanding the opening of a stone quarry in Companiganj, Sylhet. On Wednesday (July 02) night, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Companiganj Police Station Mosharraf Hossain filed the case as the plaintiff.
The case names 9 people and 30 to 40 unknown people have been named as accused in the case. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station Uzayer Al Mahmud confirmed this information.
Meanwhile, two people named Abdul Hamid and Madris Mia have been arrested in connection with the vandalism of a tourist vehicle. Later, their arrests were shown in the case filed by the police.
A mass hunger strike and protest program was organized in the Thanabazar area on Tuesday afternoon (July 1) under the banner of ‘Sylhet District Stone-related Business Owners-Workers Unity Council’ demanding the opening of a stone quarry. During this, a section of the protesters pelted bricks and stones at several tourist vehicles and vandalized them with sticks.
Uzayer Al Mahmud, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station, said that the police have filed a case as the plaintiff in the attack and vandalism on the tourist vehicle. Two people have been arrested in this incident. The operation to arrest the absconding accused is ongoing.
