ABU SAEED MURDER: Case filed against 17 including former IGP, BRU teachers

Ramzan Ali, the elder brother of martyr Abu Saeed, filed a case in the court almost a month after his killing. On Sunday (August 18) around 11:30 am, he submitted an application to the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court to instruct the Tajhat police station to file a murder case in this regard. After the hearing, the judge of the court Raju Ahmed ordered the police station to file a murder case for killiing Abu Saeed.
In the case, the then IGP of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Rangpur DIG Abdul Baten, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Moniruzzaman, Deputy Police Commissioner Abu Maruf Hossain, Assistant Police Commissioner Arifuzzaman, Assistant Police Commissioner Imran Hossain, Police Station OC Rabiul Islam, Police ASI Syed Ameer Ali and Sujan Chandra Roy have been made accused in the case.
Apart from this, Teachers’ Association General Secretary of Begum Rokeya University (BRU) Asad Mandal, Teacher of Mathematics Department Moshiur Rahman, Officer Rafiul Hasan Russell of Proctor Office, BRU Chhatra League President Pomel Barua, General Secretary Shamim Mahfuz, Office Secretary Babul Hossain and University Police Outpost Incharge Bibhuti Bhushan have also been accused.
Advocate Rayhanuzzaman, representing the plaintiff, said that seventeen people involved in the murder of BRU student Abu Saeed have been named and 30/35 unknown people have been made accused. The court directed the Metropolitan Tajhat police station to accept ‘treat for disclosure’.
The police can arrest the accused at any time if they want. However, since a case has been filed against the police, the court has been informed for a judicial inquiry, he said.
Abu Saeed, a student of the English Department of BRU was shot dead by the police during the anti-discrimination movement last month.
