A case filed in connection with the abduction of a university student named Himel is being investigated by the DB police of Lalbagh Division under Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police.
Investigating the Himel abduction incident, the detective police found out that Samidul Islam, a private car driver, was the mastermind of this abduction case. At the time, Detective Branch (DB) of Lalbagh Division had also found the link of city car drivers with various kidnapping rings.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (DB chief) Harun-Or-Rashid gave this information while talking to reporters at his office on Minto Road in the capital on Saturday.
The DB chief said, when the driver Samidul Islam drove the car, greed arose in him; seeming to have a car of his own like his Boss.
Driver Samidul first discussed the matter with a site engineer named Hanif of Turag area. After that, his next discussion was with UP Chairman Mamun of Dobaura Union in Mymensingh.
A plan was made to kidnap Himel and keep him at Chairman Mamun’s home.
Later, when Himel was kidnapped and taken to his home, but because of the delay in getting the money, Himel was sent to the border area in Mamun’s car. Himel was taken by car to a hill on the border. Since then, torture on Himel was started.
Later DB Lalbagh division started working based on the GD.
DB Chief Harun also said that later Masud was arrested from Char area of Shariatpur by DB Lalbagh. Sources were appointed at Dobaura, Netrekona, Durgapur in Mymensingh and Tanguar Haor in Tahirpur with various information through arrested Masud.
Through this source, DB learned that this group not only kidnaps, but also is involved in various crimes, including smuggling. They have been involved in smuggling of various products, including cows and sugar.
