Md Abdur Rakib, JnU :

The Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) and Hall Parliament elections 2025 are going to be held on December 30, 2025 for the first time since its establishment. The official campaigning for the elections began on December 15. A festive atmosphere was seen in the election campaign, and the candidates made various promises to the students seeking votes for their panels.

According to university sources, more than fifty independent candidates are contesting in a total of four panels and various positions. Among the panels, candidates are contesting in the Central Parliament under the ‘Maulana Bhashani Brigade’, ‘Oikyabuddha Nirbhik Jabian’, ‘Oikyabuddha Zabian’ and ‘Adomya Jabian Oikya’ panels, and in the Hall Parliament under the ‘Rokeya Parshad’. There are also independent candidates for various positions.

According to the final list published by the Election Commission on December 11, 156 people are contesting for 21 posts of the Central Parliament. The number of voters in the JnUCSU elections is 16,725.

Meanwhile, according to the schedule announced on November 5, the JnUCSU elections were supposed to be held on December 22. However, due to the earthquake scare, a holiday was decided from November 23 to 27 and online classes from November 30 to December 4 on the demand of students and the panel. As a result, the university administration announced a new schedule on December 4. According to this schedule, the election campaign will continue for 13 days from December 15 to 27. Voting will be held on December 30 and the counting of votes and results will be announced on December 30 or 31.

Various student organizations and independent candidates have made various promises on crucial issues such as ensuring students’ rights, solving the housing problem, and developing research and infrastructure. At the same time, the candidates want to prioritize the work of the second campus, formulate an international standard syllabus, and establish JnUCSU as part of the academic calendar.
GS candidate of the ‘Maulana Bhashani Bgrade’ panel, Ivan Tahsib, said, “We have received a huge response in the first day of campaigning. The interest of the students in the elections is remarkable, and our fight to achieve the rights of the students from the administration will continue. The manifesto includes inclusion of JnUCSU in the academic calendar, implementation of anti-sexual harassment cells on campus, improvement of food quality in the canteen and introduction of three-time meals, ensuring necessary books in seminars of each department and elimination of department-based budget disparity.
Besides, AGS candidate of the ‘ Oikoboddo Nirbhik Jabian’ panel, BM Atiqur Rahman Tanzil, said, “Students are welcoming us. As we have been by the side of the students in the past, we will be the same in the future. We will work to resolve every crisis of the Jabians. He mentioned the construction of a modern and safe campus as their main goal.
Kishwar Anjum Sammya, VP candidate of the ‘Oikyabuddha Jabian’ panel, said, “We are not making promises, but giving action plans. These include industry and academic collaboration, international standard syllabus, insurance system for students and creating an integrated app for Jagannath University.”
On the other hand, Md. Riazul Islam, VP candidate of the ‘Adommya Jobian Oikya panel, said, “We are getting a huge response from the students. Our panel will work for the welfare of the students and to ensure a good educational environment.”
Independent VP candidate, Md. Rakib Hasan said, “Being an independent candidate, he is facing various challenges in campaigning. I am not maintaining any political supported panel , so it is challenging for me to reach all the students in this short while. All this consideration, I’m getting good response from general students, and I’m hopeful with this election.
