A candidate named Md. Mobarak Hossain has been invited to take the lecturer recruitment exam at the Department of Management Education at the University of Cumilla (CoU), despite not meeting the required criteria.
The recruitment notice from October stated that applicants must have at least a First Division or a GPA of 4.00 in both SSC and HSC exams. However, Md. Mobarak Hossain only has a GPA of 3.90 on his HSC exam, which is below the required GPA of 4.00.
Further investigation revealed that a later notice issued on November 30, 2023, mentioned the possibility of relaxing the conditions for candidates already employed elsewhere, but this was not mentioned in the earlier notice that Md. Mobarak Hossain applied under.
The selection committee, consisting of senior faculty members from the department, is responsible for checking the eligibility of applicants. The committee includes Professor Dr. Sheikh Moksedur Rahman (Head of the Department), Dr. Muhammad Ashan Ullah, Associate Professor Mohammad Mahbub Alam, Dr. G. M. Azmol Ali Kawsar, and Mohammad Maksudul Karim.
Dr. Sheikh Moksedur Rahman explained that this issue was a mistake and that they had informed the registrar for further investigation.
Dr. Muhammad Ashan Ullah, a member of the committee, said that no candidate can be selected unless they meet the criteria. He suggested that the issue could be a printing error and that it should be corrected if necessary.
Registrar Md. Mujibur Rahman Majumder mentioned that the invitation was sent by mistake and that he could not cancel it at this stage. He explained that there are several steps in the process where it could be stopped.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Haidar Ali stated that the selection board will review the situation. If the candidate does not meet the requirements, he will be excluded from the process. The planning committee will also receive a show-cause notice.
