Cancel secret deals with India Rizvi urges Yunus

In a recent address, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi urged the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus to annul all secret agreements made between the previous Awami League government and India over the past 15 years.
Rizvi’s statement highlights growing concerns within the BNP about the potential implications of these undisclosed deals.
Speaking at an event organised by the Kafrul Thana BNP on Saturday morning (August 24), Rizvi criticised the former Sheikh Hasina-led government, labelling it as tyrannical and accusing it of compromising Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
He referenced a recent remark by an Indian actress suggesting that India had lost its influence over a previously compliant country, which he claimed was a veiled reference to Bangladesh under Sheikh Hasina’s rule.
Rizvi accused Sheikh Hasina of undermining democracy, rigging elections, and appointing MPs without proper electoral processes.
“Sheikh Hasina, who has buried the democracy of this country, is the person whom India supports-not Bangladesh. They do not support the people of Bangladesh,” Rizvi asserted.
During his speech, Rizvi also pointed to regrets expressed by Awami League leaders, suggesting they now recognise the errors of their administration.
“People are now calling the Awami League the ‘Party of Regrets,'” he remarked, indicating the party’s failure to continue exploiting the country’s resources through its youth and student wings.
Rizvi emphasised the BNP’s integrity, portraying it as a party representing the interests of the working class and the general public.
“The BNP is a party of gentlemen, a party of the people, a party of the hard-working labourers of this country.
The BNP is not a party of thugs or terrorists,” he stressed, highlighting the party’s resilience despite severe oppression over the past 15 years.
He did not hold back when discussing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, accusing her of inhumane tactics to maintain power.
“Former illegal Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has no humanity; there is no human blood in her veins. She has tried to stay in power by shedding blood, leaving bodies in the streets,” Rizvi charged.
The BNP spokesperson urged party members to uphold peace and order, in line with the ideals of their leader Begum Khaleda Zia and national leader Tarique Rahman.
He assured that the BNP would not repeat the corruption and violence that he attributed to the Awami League’s tenure.
