In Ishwardi, an operation started to clear the sidewalks on both sides of the road and the market. The campaign was conducted by the municipal administration on Thursday and Wednesday. At this time, from gate number 1 of the market to Chand Ali Mor, more than a hundred shops and structures on the pavement inside the market were demolished and evicted.
According to municipal sources, for years traders occupied the footpaths on both sides of the main road in the city’s busiest market area. The road was narrowed by occupying the drains and road sections in front of various types of shops and hotels by placing cooking stoves and storing goods. Before this, the elected representatives did not take the initiative to evacuate these structures, even though they had promised. After appointing an administrator in the municipality, instructions were given by miking to remove these illegally constructed structures and shops. But due to non-compliance, the mobile court started the eviction operation from Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, upazila executive officer and municipal administrator Subir Kumar Das exchanged views with business people at the office of the Industrial and Merchant Association in the market on Thursday (October 17) around 12 noon. Shahidul Islam Shahid, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police station, honorable member of municipal council, municipal executive officer, municipal official, Nannu, owner of Gopal market, businessman Mahmudul Hasan Jewel and others were present.
