BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday said that judges who contributed to establishing Sheikh Hasina’s “fascist regime” in Bangladesh must be brought to trial to prevent future abuses of the judiciary.
“The judiciary is one of the key pillars that enabled the rise of fascism. Justice Khairul Haque, Justice Enayetur Rahim, Justice Asaduzzaman, and many others played roles in this process,” Rizvi said while speaking at a discussion.
The event, titled ‘60 Lakh Accused in False Cases Under Fascism: How Far the Redress,’ was organised by the Nationalist Research Foundation (NRF) at the Jatiya Press Club.
Rizvi alleged that Justice Asaduzzaman wrongfully sentenced BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a fabricated case, while Justice Enayetur Rahim unlawfully increased her prison term.
“Why shouldn’t those judges be held accountable? Judges who supported fascism must face trial. If such trials are ensured, it will deter future manipulation of the judiciary for undemocratic repression,” he asserted.
Drawing a parallel with the post-World War II Nuremberg Trials, Rizvi noted that even judges who sentenced millions to death under Hitler’s regime were prosecuted.
“If they could be tried, why can’t those responsible for prolonging Sheikh Hasina’s fascism be brought to justice? Their trial must be ensured,” he concluded.
