A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight to Chattogram made an emergency landing in Dhaka on Monday after a mechanical fault caused the cabin temperature to spike shortly after take-off.
Flight BG 615, a Bombardier Dash 8-400, departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:34pm but returned just 21 minutes later. Passengers and crew reported intense heat in the cabin, prompting the pilots to turn back. The aircraft landed safely at 2:55pm.
Biman spokesperson ABM Rowshan Kabir said the decision was made for safety reasons and arrangements were underway to place passengers on the next available flight. Passengers praised the crew for remaining calm and providing regular updates.
The incident came a day after another technical problem forced the cancellation of Biman’s Rome–Dhaka flight BG 356, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which remains grounded in Italy for inspection and repairs.
Back-to-back technical issues have sparked concerns over the airline’s maintenance and operational reliability. Biman said it is reviewing servicing protocols to ensure passenger safety and minimise future disruptions.
