In the name of new house tax revaluation in city corporation area, the house tax amount has been increased from Tk80 thousand to Tk 1 lakh eighty thousand, due to the process of determining house tax on the basis of rent collection, the holding tax of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) is now a cause of fear for the house owner.
Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) made this claim in a statement said that various irregularities have been alleged against a class of officials of the CCC in the household assessment process. More than 10 times increase in city corporation house tax will add new dimension to people’s suffering. Immediately stop the current process of house tax collection and instead of assessing house tax based on house rent, house tax should be determined based on the location, square feet, quality and structural features of the property. To bring the house tax determination system of all city corporations in the country to a uniform system, a high-powered commission should be formed to increase the tax step by step and make the tax assessment process more transparent and accountable to make tax collection more people-friendly.
