Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has urged young scouts across Bangladesh to become agents of change by “opening doors” for others, calling on them to use their unique experience and leadership to build an inclusive future.

Addressing the inaugural session of the nationwide Cub Carnival and Shapla Cub Award distribution ceremony at the Chief Adviser’s Office, Prof Yunus emphasized that being a scout is not just a personal achievement but a responsibility to uplift others, reports BSS.

“Don’t remain in regret that the doors are closed. You have to open the doors as you have come a long way; because you have come forward, you have become a Scout, while the rest of your school has not,” he told the young attendees.

In a stirring message, the Nobel Laureate urged the scouts to look beyond personal progress and become pioneers in creating opportunities for their peers. “If you do not open [the doors], they will remain closed,” he said, underscoring the idea that leadership is measured not only by awards but by action and empathy.

Reflecting on his own journey, Prof Yunus recalled being a 15-year-old participant in the 10th World Boy Scout Jamboree in Canada in 1955, an experience that, he said, broadened his worldview and sense of self. “Otherwise, there is no other scope to get to know oneself in a busy life,” he added.

The event, organized by Bangladesh Scouts and funded by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, was held simultaneously across 527 locations, including all upazilas, metropolitans, sub-areas, and special districts. The Cub Carnival aimed to engage young scouts in educational and civic activities.
