According to a post on his press office’s official Facebook page late Wednesday, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus expressed his appreciation, saying, “Thank you, Mr. President, for responding positively to our request for a 90-day pause on tariffs. We will continue to work with your administration in support of your trade agenda.”
The suspension follows President Trump’s announcement last week of sweeping tariff hikes on imports from over 100 countries — a move that sparked widespread global concern.
Although Trump doubled down on tariffs targeting China, he granted a temporary reprieve to other nations. “Based on the lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets,” he wrote on Truth Social, “I am hereby raising the Tariff charged to China by the United States of America to 125%, effective immediately.”
The 90-day suspension is expected to ease pressure on several economies, including Bangladesh, which had earlier voiced concerns over the abrupt tariff escalation.
