Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus yesterday underscored the importance of cultivating work habits geared towards the welfare of others in daily life, emphasizing that social service is a collective responsibility.
“Social service is the responsibility of all, and the job of the ministry is to remind everyone so that none forgets this duty or moves away from it,” he stated. He expressed hope that his call would resonate widely and inspire action.
The Chief Adviser made these remarks while inaugurating the Walkathon and Social Service Conference, an event organized by the Department of Social Services to mark National Social Service Day-2025. The event took place at Manik Mia Avenue, bringing together participants from various walks of life.
Highlighting the innate human tendency to work for the benefit of others, Professor Yunus called for awakening this desire universally. “Working for the welfare of others is more joyous than doing something for oneself,” he said, urging individuals to act beyond personal interests.
The Chief Adviser further stressed the power of collective effort, noting that “the power of people is greater than the power of a government.” He encouraged citizens to contribute from their individual capacities to advance the nation rather than relying entirely on government interventions.
Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S. Murshid also addressed the gathering, reinforcing the message of mutual support and collective responsibility. Adding a fresh perspective, three student representatives from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement shared their thoughts, advocating for inclusive social welfare initiatives.
The Walkathon and conference aimed to inspire action and dialogue around the theme of community welfare, aligning with the broader goals of National Social Service Day.
The event’s success highlighted the growing recognition of individual contributions as pivotal to national progress.
