BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commended Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus for his address to the nation, stating that it clearly presented the vision of the interim government.

At a press briefing held at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Thursday, Fakhrul expressed hope that the government would swiftly implement the necessary reforms outlined by the Chief Adviser, thereby ensuring a smooth path towards holding the national elections.

“This is a very crucial time,” Fakhrul remarked, “ The Chief Adviser discussed various reforms required for different institutions and named those responsible for carrying them out.”

He further noted that Dr Yunus had broadly outlined the vision of the interim government during his address.
The BNP leader stressed the importance of these reforms, asserting that the autocratic regime of Sheikh Hasina had dismantled state institutions. “We expect these reforms to be completed without delay,” he said.

Fakhrul also expressed optimism that the interim government would prioritise promptly re-establishing a parliament of elected representatives, reflective of the people’s will.

“We wish success for the interim government, which came to power through a mass movement. We hope they will meet the hopes and aspirations of the people,” Fakhrul said.

He reiterated that there is no alternative to democracy, as it is the system through which the desires of the people are realised.

“Our most important task now is to build democratic institutions. But this must be done according to the will of the people. We hope the interim government understands this and fulfils their responsibilities effectively, so the people benefit,” Fakhrul asserted.

He reassured that the BNP was committed to giving the interim government the time and opportunity to accomplish the necessary reforms. “We expect these reforms to be completed as soon as possible, leading to the elections,” he added.

On Wednesday evening, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus announced the formation of six commissions aimed at reforming the judiciary, election system, administration, police, Anti-Corruption Commission, and the constitution during his address to the nation.

At the press briefing, Fakhrul spoke to reporters following a coordination meeting with BNP and its associate bodies at Nayapaltan central office. The meeting reviewed preparations for BNP’s two-day programme on September 14 and 15 to celebrate International Democracy Day.

Regarding the administrative situation, Fakhrul acknowledged the disarray, attributing it to the ousting of the previous government through a revolution.

“It’s a new government. The previous government politicised the bureaucracy by promoting their own supporters and using them. It will take some time to restore order,” he explained.

He added that since recruiting entirely new officers was not feasible at the moment, existing officers would need to manage administrative activities. “We must be patient. I believe things will return to normal soon,” he said.

Fakhrul also warned of a vested quarter attempting to derail the student-led mass uprising.
He accused the deposed leader, Sheikh Hasina, of taking refuge in India, from where she has been spreading false propaganda against Bangladesh and its people.

“This propaganda will not be accepted,” he emphasised, expressing confidence that the people of Bangladesh would reject such misinformation and resist it.

The BNP leader also mentioned attempts to destabilise the industrial sector and called on patriotic citizens to unite against such conspiracies. He urged all BNP leaders and activists to fully support the efforts to keep industries and factories operational.

“We must remain united, exercise patience, and support the people in resisting those who seek to disrupt the country’s achievements,” Fakhrul concluded.
