Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has ordered an immediate and full-scale investigation into the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and Dhaka-8 independent aspirant Sharif Osman Hadi, who was critically injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on him in Dhaka’s Paltan area on Thursday.

In a press statement, the Chief Adviser’s Office said Yunus expressed “deep concern” over the attack and instructed law enforcement agencies to identify and arrest all those involved without delay.

He directed investigators to collect evidence from the scene, take eyewitness accounts, and review CCTV footage to determine whether the shooting was part of a coordinated plot.

Hadi, who sustained a bullet wound to the head, was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Evercare Hospital for advanced treatment.

The chief adviser has instructed health authorities to ensure that “the highest level of medical care” is provided and asked the health ministry to closely monitor his condition.

Calling the attack “completely unacceptable” in the context of an approaching national election, Yunus said such incidents are “deeply regrettable” for the country’s political landscape.

“No form of violence aimed at disrupting the election will be tolerated,” he said, emphasising that the government is committed to ensuring public safety and protecting the freedom of movement of all candidates.

“Whoever the perpetrators are, they will be brought under the law,” the statement read.

The chief adviser urged political parties, activists, and citizens to maintain peace and exercise restraint so the upcoming election can proceed in a safe, participatory, and peaceful environment.
