Bangladesh’s interim Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has expressed confidence in the country’s military, praising its professionalism and dedication to national security.

His remarks came following a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Wednesday at the state guest house, Jamuna.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussion highlighted the military’s crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and maintaining stability.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman provided an overview of the current security situation and outlined the army’s ongoing operations, emphasising key initiatives aimed at strengthening national stability and development.

The meeting also touched on broader strategic matters, including the army chief’s recent visit to the Central African Republic, which he suggested would enhance bilateral relations and military cooperation between the two nations.

Additionally, General Waker-Uz-Zaman briefed Professor Yunus on the findings and recommendations of a high-level review panel regarding justice for disadvantaged army officers.

He also provided updates on an ongoing senior-level review concerning Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and other ranks who had been dismissed under various circumstances. This review, military officials stated, is focused on ensuring fairness and transparency within the armed forces.

In response, Professor Yunus acknowledged the military’s contributions to national security and offered guidance on its future direction.

The ISPR statement also noted that the chief adviser was informed about the army’s humanitarian efforts, particularly its role in providing medical assistance to students and civilians injured during the July-August uprisings.

The meeting highlighted the increasing cooperation between the civilian administration and military leadership in addressing both security and social challenges.

As Bangladesh undergoes a period of political transition, the armed forces continue to play a crucial role in maintaining stability and supporting governance.
