Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has issued 12 directives to the district commissioners (DCs) to ensure hassle-free and corruption-free public services. The Cabinet Division conveyed these instructions to the DCs in an official letter on Friday, March 28.

The letter emphasizes that essential services, including birth registration, national identity cards, passports, and land registration, must be provided without harassment or corruption. It urges DCs to carry out their duties with integrity, free from fear, influence, or unnecessary flattery.

One of the key directives includes issuing passports without requiring a police investigation. Additionally, DCs have been instructed to focus on controlling commodity prices, maintaining law and order, and ensuring efficiency in land registration, birth certificates, and national identity card services.

The letter also stresses the need to eliminate coordination gaps among different government offices and agencies. It highlights that officials must strictly adhere to the law while carrying out their responsibilities, avoiding any external pressure or influence.

Cabinet Division officials stated that the activities of DCs in the field are under government supervision.

Commenting on the matter, public administration expert A.K.M. Saiful Islam Chowdhury said that following the July uprising, DCs had faced a difficult situation. The Chief Adviser’s directives aim to motivate them and improve governance, which is a positive step forward.
