Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus officially inaugurated the ‘Army Headquarters Selection Board-2025′ at the Army Headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday.
According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the first phase of this year’s promotion board will consider eligible officers for promotion to the ranks of colonel and lieutenant colonel in the Bangladesh Army.
During his speech, Professor Yunus paid tribute to the martyrs, war-wounded, and valiant freedom fighters of the 1971 Liberation War—especially those from the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice. He also honored the memory of army personnel martyred or injured in duty, including those in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Additionally, the Chief Adviser respectfully commemorated the students and civilians who were killed or wounded during the July 2024 mass uprising.
Addressing the board members, Prof Yunus urged them to prioritize merit, leadership qualities, discipline, honesty, and loyalty when evaluating candidates for promotion. He emphasized that officers demonstrating integrity and proven leadership should be given priority, regardless of political views.
“Those who have shown exceptional leadership in their military careers—rising above political ideology—should be considered for advancement,” he stated.
Prof Yunus also highlighted the Bangladesh Army’s vital role beyond defending sovereignty, including maintaining internal security, ensuring stability, and aiding the civil administration during disasters. He acknowledged the continued support provided by army personnel in civil affairs and thanked all members of the armed forces for their service.
Upon arrival at the venue, Chief Adviser Yunus was received by Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Chief Adviser’s special assistant on defence and national solidarity, and the Chief of General Staff.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman thanked Prof Yunus for inaugurating the selection board.
Senior military and civilian officials attended the event. The Chief Adviser concluded his visit by joining a photo session with army officers and signing the visitors’ book.
