Chief Advisor of the interim government, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, has called an emergency meeting scheduled for Saturday (April 5) at 7:30 PM at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.
The meeting will be attended by leading economic experts, members of the advisory council, and relevant government officials, confirmed Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
The development comes after US President Donald Trump announced a 37% import tariff on Bangladeshi products under the new “Reciprocal Tariff” policy. The move has raised serious concerns about potential shocks to Bangladesh’s export sector, which heavily depends on the US market.
Sources suggest today’s meeting will focus on assessing the likely fallout, formulating strategic responses, and exploring diplomatic efforts to engage with the US on the matter.
Economists warn that this sudden policy shift may negatively impact not only Bangladesh but also other developing nations in South Asia that rely on export-led growth. Officials hinted that Bangladesh plans to initiate formal diplomatic communication with the US soon.
