BWPEA stresses on sustainable infrastructure

The Bangladesh Water and Power Engineers Association (BWPEA) organised a seminar titled “Sustainable Infrastructure and Strategic Planning in the Water and Power Sectors: The Role of Engineers in Future Leadership” was held at the Panib Bhaban in the capital on Wednesday.

The seminar was attended by honoured guests including Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, says a press release.

Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan emphasised the crucial role of water and power sectors as the two main pillars of national development. He underlined the importance of engineers’ innovative thinking, dedication, and strategic vision in building sustainable infrastructure. He added that active participation of future leaders would accelerate the sector’s progress.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan highlighted that sustainable development must be compatible with environmental preservation. She urged engineers to conduct their work in ways that honor their professional reputation.

The keynote paper was presented by Md. Shahedul Azim Sojal, General Secretary of the association, and Dr. Md. Saif Uddin, Publicity Secretary.

Md. Shahedul Azim Sojal stated that sustainable progress in the water and power sectors is essential for Bangladesh’s development and that engineers are the primary drivers, working tirelessly in the field, projects, and offices to keep the development cycle active.

He noted that skilled engineers help reduce project costs, accelerate implementation, and improve service quality. Therefore, proper recognition of engineers equates to national beneficial investment.

The seminar was chaired by Md. Shahjahan Siraj, President of the Bangladesh Water and Power Engineers Association and Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board.
Organisers also presented mementos to the guests as a mark of respect.
