Sylhet Bureau :
Although 48 hours have passed since the murder of grocery trader Noman Uddin of Kaliganj Bazar in Zakiganj Sylhet, no written complaint has been filed with the police station till Friday afternoon. Despite continuous interrogation and extensive investigation by the police, the real mystery of the murder has not been revealed yet. The initial assumption of the police is that it was a planned murder.
Last Wednesday (October 1) afternoon, the police recovered the body of the deceased Noman Uddin from the paddy field behind Shaila Memorial Hospital in Kaliganj Bazar area, not far from his house. Locals and family members identified the missing Noman Uddin (50) after seeing the body. He is the son of the deceased Abdul Jabbar of Purba Manikpur village in Manikpur Union.
Sources said that the deceased Noman Uddin had been living in Saudi Arabia for about 20 years. He returned to the country about 2 years ago and started a grocery business in Kaliganj Bazar. He made a lot of money due to his stay abroad.
According to family sources, Noman Uddin left his house at around 10 am on September 29 to open a shop in Kaliganj Bazar and went to Shayla Memorial Hospital at around 11 am, according to the deceased’s brother-in-law Hanif Ahmed Sumon. He has been missing since then. On the same day, his wife Monowara Begum filed a general diary with the Zakiganj Police Station on behalf of the family. Then, a ransom of two lakh taka was demanded from an unknown mobile number. However, the locals consider the matter suspicious.
After recovering the body on Wednesday evening, the police prepared a post-mortem report and took the body to the police station for autopsy. The funeral of the deceased Noman Uddin was held on Thursday night. The locals who attended the funeral strongly demanded that the mystery of the murder be solved and the real accused be arrested. They publicly alleged that some family members, including the deceased’s wife Monowara Begum, brother-in-law Hanif Ahmed Sumon, and others, may have been involved in the incident.
According to police sources, at least 10 people, including the deceased’s wife Monowara Begum, daughters Munni and Tanni, brother-in-law Hanif Ahmed Sumon, cousin Riaz Uddin, and hospital caretaker Tera Mia, have been questioned since the incident. However, no clues have been found yet.
Meanwhile, after Noman Uddin went missing, his brother-in-law Sumon Ahmed and Majed Ahmed of Babur Bazar Etichamnagar village went to the police station and filed a GD, saying they were talking incoherently. They did not cooperate with the police by providing any accurate information about the incident. After Noman Uddin’s body was recovered, the body was kept in an ambulance at the police station overnight, but no family members or relatives were present there, and the body was under police guard all night. The deceased’s daughter Munni Begum said in a video message that she will file a case after the autopsy report comes. She will accuse only those she suspects. However, she asked them not to suspect anyone. Which has raised more questions in the minds of the locals.
In addition, there are allegations that the CCTV camera in Noman Uddin’s house was removed. It is alleged that the deceased’s brother-in-law fled the scene after seeing the body after finding the body. The mystery of these incidents has intensified.
Locals allege that businessman Noman Uddin was killed in a well-planned manner. The mysterious behavior of the family members and the deceased’s brother-in-law is intensifying the mystery surrounding the entire incident. Although the police investigation is ongoing, the locals believe that a deep conspiracy is hidden behind the murder, including internal family relations, property disputes and ransom drama.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Zakiganj Police Station Jahirul Islam Munna said, “At least 10 people, including the deceased’s wife, children, brother-in-law and some close relatives, have been questioned since the incident. The investigation is ongoing from multiple angles. However, there has been no progress to report yet. No written complaint was received till Friday afternoon. He added, “This is being treated as a murder. The police are making every effort to identify those involved.”
