The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the driver responsible for a deadly road crash on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway in Lohagara that claimed 11 lives.

The accused, 27-year-old Sohel Talukder from Dakshinkhan in Dhaka, was apprehended Sunday night from the Ansar Camp area in Dhaka’s Mirpur, according to RAB-7 Senior ASP ARM Mofazzar Hossain.

After the accident, Sohel reportedly fled the scene and went into hiding in the capital.

The tragic incident occurred on April 2, when a Cox’s Bazar-bound microbus collided head-on with a Relax Paribahan bus in the Chunti area of Lohagara. Ten passengers of the microbus died instantly, while another succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Sohel, who was driving the bus, fled immediately after the crash.

Following the accident, Md Rabiul Hossein, brother-in-law of victim Rafiqul Islam, filed a case with the Lohagara Police Station against unidentified individuals.
