Five hours of disruption ensued on the Dhaka-North Bengal railway route following the derailment of two wheels of the Dhaka-bound intercity Burimari Express train near Muladuli station in Ishwardi. However, normalcy returned to rail connectivity between Dhaka and North Bengal as operations resumed.
The incident occurred on Thursday (May 9) around 3:00 a.m. at the outer signal crossing Muladuli station between Muladuli and Chatmohar railway stations. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, but the disruption led to a halt in railway services to Dhaka, leaving passengers stranded and causing delays for trains caught in the aftermath. Prompt action was taken, and a three-member investigation committee was swiftly formed, comprising Anwar Hossain, Transport Officer (DTO) of Pakshi Divisional Railway, Mumtazul Islam, Pakshi Divisional Railway Mechanical Engineer (Carriage), and Divisional Engineer-2 Birbal Mondal.
Divisional Engineer-2 Birbal Mondal provided details, stating that coach number 5 of the Burimari Express derailed from the engine near Muladuli outer signal.
The incident involved a Burimari Express meter gauge train. Following the arrival of the relief train at Muladuli, efforts were made to rectify the situation. The derailed coach was safely placed beside the railway line, allowing other trains to resume their journeys.
DRM Shah Sufi Noor Mohammad commended the tireless efforts of Pakshi Divisional Railway officials, stating that work began at 7:00 a.m., and the railway line was operational within just one hour. However, scheduled trains are expected to experience delays throughout the week, with operations set to return to normalcy after the weekly closure.
The formation of an investigation committee underscores the commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of railway operations, with authorities working diligently to minimize disruptions and restore services promptly.
